FAQ’s

What does the PosiTector IRT measure?

It measures surface temperature from a distance using infrared radiation—no contact points needed.

What is the significance of the 5.7:1 distance-to-spot ratio (D:S)?

This ratio defines the field of measurement. For example, at 85 cm distance, the spot measured is 15 cm—providing an averaged reading over that area. Great for surface scanning.

How does emissivity affect accuracy?

Emissivity defines how a material emits infrared energy. The IRT allows selection from 7 presets, custom input, or adjustment using a known temperature reference for accurate readings.

Can I use the IRT on shiny or blasted metal surfaces?

Yes—but you must adjust emissivity, or measure over transferred paint or tape for accuracy. A quick surface check with a contact probe helps set emissivity.

Standard vs Advanced models—what are the differences?

  • Standard: 1,000 readings, USB

  • Advanced: 250,000 readings, live graphing, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, batch annotation

Can I capture screen and store images?

Yes. The IRT allows you to capture screen data for record-keeping and later review.

Is it built for tough environments?

Yes—IP65 sealing, shock-absorbing construction, and a durable holster make it robust enough for harsh industrial use.

Do I need calibration?

Yes. Every unit arrives with a calibration certificate. Annual recalibration is recommended. DFT facilitates fast UK turnaround servicing.
