PosiTector UTG FAQ’s
Do I need to remove paint or coating to measure thickness?
Not with the UTG ME model, which uses multi-echo technology to measure base metal through most coatings.
How is calibration performed?
Each gauge is factory-calibrated and supplied with a Certificate of Calibration. Field calibration or verification with a known reference standard is recommended for critical applications.
Can it measure non-metallic materials?
Yes. Certain UTG models can measure plastics, composites, and glass, provided the correct probe and velocity settings are used.
Does the gauge display a cross-sectional view?
Advanced models provide A-scan and B-scan imaging for detailed visualisation of the test material.
Is the instrument suitable for high-temperature surfaces?
With appropriate couplant and within probe specifications, measurements can be taken on moderately warm surfaces; consult DFT for specific limits.
What couplant is required?
A thin layer of ultrasonic couplant (gel or glycerine) ensures proper sound transmission between the probe and the surface.
Can I store and report data?
