FAQ’s

Is the PosiTector 6000 calibrated when delivered?

Yes. Each instrument is fully calibrated at the factory and supplied with a long-form certificate of calibration traceable to recognised metrology institutes (UKAS/NIST/PTB). This certificate documents actual readings, not just “conformance,” providing proof of accuracy for audits and compliance.

How does it handle different substrates?

The gauge automatically recognises whether the substrate is ferrous or non-ferrous and switches to the appropriate measurement principle (magnetic induction or eddy current). FN probes combine both, allowing seamless measurement across mixed-metal structures.

Do I need to recalibrate regularly?

We recommend annual recalibration, though frequency depends on usage and inspection environment. DFT’s UK service centre offers one-day turnaround calibration and certification to keep your gauge compliant.

What probes are available?

Options include standard, micro, thick, curved, underwater, and Xtreme high-temperature probes. All probes are fully interchangeable across any PosiTector 6000 body.

Can the PosiTector 6000 store data?

Yes. Standard models store 250 readings; Advanced models store up to 100,000 readings in 1,000 batches, complete with statistics, notes, and graphs. Data can be exported via USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or PosiSoft Cloud.

Can it measure underwater or on hot surfaces?

Yes. With optional probe extensions, the 6000 can take underwater measurements to depths of 75 m. Xtreme probes can measure coatings on surfaces up to 250 °C.

Is training required to use it?

No. The device is designed for simple operation with intuitive menus and on-screen help. Video tutorials, manuals, and DFT’s UK support team are available for guidance if required.

How robust is the device?

The gauge is IP65 rated — dustproof, water resistant, and impact tested. Combined with a rubber holster and shock-resistant design, it is built for the toughest field conditions.

Which industries use the PosiTector 6000?

It is widely used in protective coatings, automotive refinishing, aerospace, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and infrastructure inspection.
